Family caregivers across Vancouver often reach the point of needing a break before they reach the point of asking. Salve provides scheduled respite (a few hours, a weekend, longer if needed) across Downtown and the West End, Kitsilano and Point Grey, Mount Pleasant and Main Street, with caregivers your loved one already trusts.

Who it's for
Family caregivers who've been at this long enough to know they need a break. The first call is the hardest; it gets easier.
Hours and schedule
Anywhere from four hours to a full week. We cover days, evenings, overnights, and around-the-clock multi-shift coverage when the situation needs it.
§
Permission to put it down for a while.
Vancouver's family caregivers are often doing it solo in a one-bedroom: a husband caring for a wife, a daughter sharing the apartment. Respite gives the carer the thing the city can't: distance without guilt. A few hours to get across town and back, an overnight, a weekend. The same caregiver comes each time, so the handoff gets shorter and the rest gets longer.

Respite for family caregivers in Vancouver: what families ask.
How does the first respite visit work?
The 15-minute call and the in-home assessment come first, so the caregiver arrives already knowing the routine. You decide how much overlap you want before stepping out, and detailed handoff notes cover your return.
Can I take a real holiday?
Yes. Respite runs up to a full week with multi-shift coverage: days, evenings, overnights. Coordination with extended health or VAC, where it applies, is part of the arrangement.
Where in Vancouver we deliver.
We see Vancouver families in Downtown and the West End, Kitsilano and Point Grey, Mount Pleasant and Main Street, Dunbar and Kerrisdale, Marpole and Oakridge, East Vancouver: Hastings, Commercial, Renfrew, and South Vancouver: Sunset, Killarney, Champlain Heights.
What it costs, and how families pay for it (extended health, VAC, CSIL,
and more), is laid out in costs and coverage. The people behind the visits are here: meet our caregivers.
